I’m Rick Schluter, a Reverse Mortgage Loan Officer with Mutual of Omaha Mortgage. My journey to this point has been both unique and rewarding, spanning various disciplines and experiences that have shaped who I am today. Let me share a bit of my story with you.
My Diverse Background
My professional path has been anything but linear. It began in the depths of the ocean as a Navy submarine officer, where discipline, precision, and teamwork were part of my daily life. From there, I transitioned to the world of academics as a nuclear physics instructor, sharing knowledge and nurturing curiosity in the minds of future scientists.
The world of sales soon called my name, leading me to roles in the commercial nuclear power sector and the corporate software industry. Each step on my journey added a new layer to my skill set, blending technical expertise with the art of building relationships.
A Calling in Reverse Mortgages
Nearly two decades ago, I discovered my true calling — reverse mortgages. This shift was not just a career change but a transformation in how I view success and fulfillment. Helping more than 500 seniors afford to remain in their homes and improve their quality of life has been the most satisfying chapter of my professional life.
As a licensed reverse mortgage loan officer in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, I’ve had the privilege of making a tangible difference in people’s lives, offering them financial solutions that bring peace of mind and stability.
Community Involvement
My commitment extends beyond the office. I’m an active member of the Sussex County Senior Advisory Board, Warren County Senior Services Network, and the United Way Caregiver Coalitions in Sussex, Warren, and Morris Counties. Volunteering and supporting our local seniors and veterans are causes close to my heart, reflecting my dedication to giving back to the community that has given me so much.

My desire to stay connected and informed in the field of aging and senior resources is reflected in my memberships with the Information Network on Aging, Senior Resource Group, and Aging Solutions Network. These affiliations allow me to remain at the forefront of industry developments, ensuring I can offer the best advice and solutions to my clients.
Personal Passions
When I’m not working or volunteering, you can find me making waves in competitive swimming. As the current New Jersey state champion in my age group for the 100-yard butterfly, I relish the challenge and discipline of the sport. It’s a testament to my belief in always pushing one’s limits and striving for excellence, whether in the pool or in professional endeavors.
