About Me

Alan Tenney is a Licensed Home Equity Retirement Specialist with Mutual of Omaha Mortgage and a highly respected professional in the reverse mortgage industry. With more than 21 years of experience working exclusively with the HECM program, Alan brings deep expertise, a passion for education, and a strong commitment to helping older homeowners make informed retirement decisions. He is licensed in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, and Missouri.

Education has been a cornerstone of Alan’s career. For the past 15 years, he has been deeply involved in continuing education, teaching financial advisors and real estate professionals about all aspects of the HECM program. Through organizations such as NAIFA, the Financial Planning Association (FPA), and the Society of Financial Service Professionals, Alan has educated more than 1,000 financial advisors, helping them better understand how home equity can be incorporated into retirement planning strategies.

Before becoming a Home Equity Retirement Specialist, Alan spent five years as a Credit and HECM Counselor with  Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging with Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Northeast Iowa, where he counseled individuals on credit, housing, and retirement challenges. It was during this time—while also teaching credit education in Cedar Valley high schools—that Alan recognized his calling to work exclusively in the reverse mortgage space, combining education with meaningful financial solutions.

Alan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa and remains actively involved in supporting the retirement community through the Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging and the Heritage Area Agency on Aging.

Outside of work, Alan enjoys an active lifestyle. He participates in several retirement golf leagues, including the Mid-Iowa Over 50 Golf Association, the Butler County Iowa 50 Plus Golf League, and the Men’s Golf League at the Aplington, Iowa Golf Course. He is also an avid cyclist, frequently riding the Cedar Valley Bike Trails and trails throughout Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Alan and his wife, Jonie, have been married for 43 years and live in Cedar Falls, Iowa. They have three children and three grandchildren, and Alan treasures spending time with his family.

With decades of experience, a strong educational foundation, and a genuine passion for helping others, Alan Tenney is dedicated to guiding clients toward confident, informed retirement decisions using the HECM program.
