About Cheryl McCarthy

I’m Cheryl McCarthy, a Reverse Mortgage Loan Officer with Mutual of Omaha Mortgage. I specialize in serving the vibrant community of Alameda and the greater San Francisco Bay Area, guiding homeowners aged 62 and older toward a more fulfilling retirement through personalized Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) solutions, also known as a reverse mortgage.

My Approach

With over 25 years of experience in banking and finance, I’ve built my reputation on a foundation of trust, integrity, and a genuine passion for empowering seniors in their retirement journey. My approach is centered around education and a “no-pressure” philosophy, ensuring that you feel fully informed and comfortable every step of the way.

Community Involvement

I’m deeply rooted in our local community, actively participating in initiatives that support the well-being and enrichment of our seniors. My affiliations include:

  • Alameda Senior Transitions: Collaborating with professionals to offer guidance to seniors navigating significant life changes.
  • Mastick Senior Center: Delivering insightful presentations in partnership with Alameda Senior Transitions.
  • Alameda County Foodbank: Contributing my time as a volunteer to combat hunger.
  • Partners in Care Alameda County (PICA): Supporting seniors with essential services.
  • Local speaking engagements: Sharing knowledge on the benefits of reverse mortgages with financial advisors, realtors, attorneys, and bankers.

Personal Interests

Originally from the East Coast, I’ve called Alameda home since 1980 and have since become an avid explorer of California’s diverse landscapes and cultural offerings. From Tahoe to San Diego, my adventures are as varied as the clients I serve.

I cherish moments spent dining out with friends, enjoying live music, and soaking in the scenic beauty of Alameda’s Crab Cove and Robert Crown Memorial Beach. My love for the arts, good food, and laughter finds me frequenting local favorites like the Alameda Comedy Club and the Alameda Theatre.

As a food enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for new culinary experiences, especially in Oakland’s burgeoning food scene. My heart, however, will always have a special place for the classic charm of locales like the Fat Lady and Paradiso.

When it comes to vacations, Hawaii and South Lake Tahoe top my list, with a memorable first cruise to Alaska marking a highlight of 2023.
